In 2010, about 2,534 people lived in Winchester. This was more than the 2,155 people counted in 2000.
Winchester was started in 1886 in an area called Peasant Valley. At that time, it was part of San Diego County. The town got its name from Mrs. Amy Winchester. She was the widow of Horace Winchester.
For many years, Winchester was mostly a farming area. It was home to farms and businesses like the Winchester Cheese Company. In the early 2000s, Winchester grew very quickly. Many new houses were built.
However, building slowed down around 2007. This was when a big change happened in the housing market. After 2010, housing prices got better. New homes, schools, and parks started to be built again.
