Windows Mobile was a special computer program, called an operating system, made by Microsoft. It was designed for older mobile devices like smartphones and Pocket PCs.
This system helped these devices run and came with basic apps. It was made to look and feel a bit like the Windows operating system you might use on a desktop computer.
Windows Mobile was used from 2000 until 2010. After that, Microsoft replaced it with a new system called Windows Phone.

The Start of Windows Mobile
The first version of this system was called Pocket PC 2000. It came out in April 2000. This version was built on an older system called Windows CE 3.0.
A couple of years later, Pocket PC 2002 was released. It was very similar to the 2000 version. It could work with all the programs made for Windows CE.
Becoming Windows Mobile
In April 2003, the system got its new name: Windows Mobile 2003. This was the first time it was officially called "Windows Mobile." It could still run programs from older Windows CE versions.
Around 2005, Windows Mobile 5 was released. It added some new features but kept a similar look to the 2003 version.
Later Versions and End
Windows Mobile 6.0 came out in February 2007. It used a newer and more powerful base system.
Versions 6.1 (in 2008) and 6.5 (in 2009/2010) followed. Windows Mobile 6.5 was the very last version of this operating system.
Microsoft stopped selling devices with Windows Mobile on June 13, 2010. All support for it ended on August 21, 2010. Two months later, the new Windows Phone was released to take its place.
