History of Windsor Village
Early Native American Settlement
Long ago, Windsor was home to Onaquaga, a village of the Seneca people. In October 1778, during something called Sullivan's Expedition, the Continental Army destroyed Onaquaga. They also destroyed about 40 other villages during this time.
Founding and Growth
The modern village of Windsor started in 1830. It grew as a place for business and quickly became more important than Ouaquaga, a nearby settlement. Windsor officially became an incorporated village in 1896.
Historic Places in Windsor
Several buildings and areas in Windsor are important for their history. The Windsor Village Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. This means it's a special place recognized for its historical value. The Jedediah Hotchkiss House was also listed in 1982.
