Wishek (pronounced WISH-ik) is a small city located in McIntosh County, North Dakota, in the United States. In 2020, about 864 people lived there.

A Look Back: Wishek's History

Wishek started as a town in 1898. This happened when the railroad tracks reached that spot. A post office also opened in Wishek that same year. The city was named after John H. Wishek Sr., who was a local cattleman. Many of the first people to build up Wishek were Germans from Russia. These were people of German descent who had lived in Russia before moving to America. The historic Old Wishek City Hall building was built in 1916.
