Wistow is a small town located in South Australia. It is found just outside Mount Barker. Wistow sits along Wellington Road, which connects Mount Barker to Wellington. It is also where Wellington Road meets Long Valley Road, which goes to Strathalbyn.
What Can You Find in Wistow?
Wistow is a quiet place with a few important buildings. It used to have a general store, which is now a bakery and cafe. This new shop also has a Post Office, so people can send mail and parcels. The town also has a community hall and a church.
The Wistow Cricket Club
One of the most exciting things in Wistow is its cricket ground. It is located on top of a hill, offering great views. The Wistow Cricket Club is known as the Echidnas. They have been playing cricket on this hill since the early 1900s.
The Echidnas are a very strong team. They play in the Alexandra and Eastern Hills Cricket Association. Since this association started in 1982, the Echidnas have won the top-level championship five times. Their winning seasons were 1993/1994, 1999/2000, 2002/2003, 2004/2005, and 2007/2008.
Community Life in Wistow
The Wistow Community Association is a very active group. They help bring people together in the town. This group used to organize a Country Market every third Saturday, but it is no longer running.
The Association still holds many social events for the community. They also publish a regular newsletter to keep everyone informed. The Wistow Community Hall belongs to the Association. Different sports groups, social clubs, and environmental groups use the hall for their activities.
