How the Museum Started

The museum first opened in 1966. Cortlandt's father helped him build the museum building. It looks like a Swiss chalet! Cortlandt first made life-size figures of movie monsters. He used materials like wax, wire, papier-mache, and polymers. Later, these figures were replaced with even more detailed ones.

Visiting the Museum

The museum is open all year. You can visit on weekend evenings. The new address for "The Witch's Dungeon Classic Movie Museum" is 103 East Main St in Plainville, CT 06062. The museum is now much bigger. Each figure has its own special background and props. Also, the museum has professional lighting. This lighting was designed by Bill Diamond, who has won an Emmy award!

Amazing Movie Figures

The museum's figures are very realistic. Many of the heads are based on "life-casts" of the actual actors. This means they made a mold directly from the actor's face! The backgrounds and clothes are also very real. Some costumes or props were even used in the original movies!
