History of Wollun

Wollun has a history connected to the railway and its post office. These services helped the community grow and connect with other places.

Railway Connections

In 1882, Wollun became connected to Sydney by train. This was part of the Main North Line, a big railway system. The train line helped people and goods travel easily. However, on February 20, 1975, the train link to Wollun closed. After that, people could only access the main railway line from nearby towns like Uralla or Walcha Road.

Post Office Services

The Wollun Post Office first opened its doors on January 16, 1892. For a while, between 1897 and 1914, it was known as Wollun Platform. This might have been because it was located near the train station platform. The post office served the community for many years, helping people send and receive mail. It eventually closed in 1977.

Life in Wollun Today

Today, Wollun is a quiet place with a small number of homes and a church. The main activities in the area are farming.

Local Industries

The people in Wollun mostly work in farming. They raise sheep and beef cattle. This is the main way they make a living.

Merino Sheep Farming

Every two years, some local farms that specialize in Merino sheep show off their animals. They do this at an event called the New England Merino Field Days. Merino sheep are famous for their soft wool. This event is a chance for farmers to share their best sheep and learn from each other.
