Datuk Wong Tien Fatt (born October 2, 1954 – died March 28, 2019), also known as Stephen Wong, was an important Malaysian politician. He was a member of the Dewan Rakyat, which is like Malaysia's Parliament, representing the area of Sandakan in Sabah. He served two terms, from 2013 to 2019.

He also held other important roles. He was a special member of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly and served as the Minister of People's Health and Wellbeing for Sabah from 2018 to 2019. Wong was also the leader of the Democratic Action Party (DAP) in Sabah from 2015 until his passing.

Winning Elections: How Stephen Wong Became an MP

The 2013 Election Victory

In the 2013 Malaysian general election, Stephen Wong ran against Liew Vui Keong. Wong won this election, becoming the MP for Sandakan. This was his first time serving in the Malaysian Parliament.

The 2018 Election Success

Stephen Wong ran for re-election in the 2018 Malaysian general election. He faced a new candidate, Lim Ming Hoo. Stephen Wong won again with a large number of votes, showing that the people of Sandakan trusted him to continue representing them.

Stephen Wong's Passing

Stephen Wong passed away on March 28, 2019. He was at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. He had a heart attack during a morning hike on that day.

His body was brought back to his hometown of Sandakan for his funeral. After his death, a special election, called a by-election, was held for his seat in Sandakan on May 11, 2019. His daughter, Vivian Wong Shir Yee, ran in this election and successfully won, continuing her father's work.
