Liew Vui Keong (born January 18, 1960 – died October 2, 2020) was an important Malaysian politician. He served as a minister in the Prime Minister's Department, focusing on legal matters. He also held roles as a Deputy Minister in different government departments. Liew Vui Keong was a Member of Parliament (MP) for two different areas, Sandakan and Batu Sapi, in Sabah. He was also the leader of a political party called the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) for several years. Later, he joined another party, the Sabah Heritage Party (WARISAN).
Liew Vui Keong passed away on October 2, 2020, at the age of 60. He died from pneumonia while receiving treatment for a slipped disc.

Liew Vui Keong had a long and active career in Malaysian politics. He held several important positions in the government.
Early Government Roles
- Deputy Minister of Trade: From 2008 to 2009, he served as the Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry. In this role, he helped manage Malaysia's trade relationships with other countries.
- Deputy Minister for Legal Affairs: From 2009 to 2013, he was the Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department. Here, he focused on legal matters for the government.

In July 2018, Liew Vui Keong was appointed as the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department. This time, he was in charge of all legal affairs for the government. He held this position until February 2020.

Liew Vui Keong was the 3rd President of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) from 2006 to 2014. In 2018, he left the LDP with about 200 members. He then joined the Sabah Heritage Party (WARISAN) and became its Permanent Chairman.

Thoughts on ESSCOM
In 2016, Liew Vui Keong openly criticized the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM). This is a special security group in Sabah. He said it was not working well, especially because of ongoing kidnappings. He believed ESSCOM needed to improve its methods for dealing with pirates and militant groups.
Discussing Capital Punishment
After becoming a minister in 2018, Liew Vui Keong talked about changing laws on capital punishment (the death penalty). He suggested that the government might remove the mandatory death penalty for all serious crimes. This idea was met with different opinions from various groups in Malaysia.

In the 2018 election, Liew Vui Keong ran for a different seat, Batu Sapi. This time, he was a candidate for his new party, WARISAN. He successfully won the seat, defeating Linda Tsen Thau Lin.
