The Worcester Pearmain is a special type, or cultivar, of apple that comes from England. It was first grown in a place called Worcester by a person named Mr. Hale in 1874. For a long time, it was one of the most popular apples to pick in England during early autumn. Even today, many people like to grow it in their gardens. This apple has also been used a lot to create new kinds of apples.

It was created by crossing an apple called Devonshire Quarrenden with another apple whose name is not known.

About the Worcester Pearmain Apple

What Does It Taste Like?

This apple has a beautiful red skin. Sometimes, it can even taste a little bit like strawberry! It is known for its smooth and sweet flavor, which makes it perfect for eating fresh. Many people also enjoy it when it's cooked, especially as stewed apple. After you pick it, a Worcester Pearmain apple usually stays fresh for about one week.

Growing Worcester Pearmain Trees

The apple tree itself is not very strong-growing, but it can resist diseases fairly well. It produces lovely flowers, which are a beautiful sight in spring. These blossoms are not completely able to pollinate themselves, meaning they might need another apple tree nearby to help them produce fruit. The tree usually gives a lot of apples, and they are ready to pick in the early to middle part of the apple season.

In 1993, the Worcester Pearmain apple received a special award called the Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society. This award means it is an excellent plant for gardeners to grow.
