A Look at Worth's Past
Worth has an interesting history. A post office first opened here in 1872, helping the community connect with the outside world. The village gets its name from Worth County, where it is located.
The Great Tornado of 1947
On April 29, 1947, a very strong tornado, known as the Worth Tornado, struck the village. It was a powerful storm that caused a lot of damage. Sadly, many buildings were destroyed, and the community faced a difficult time rebuilding. Today, there's a special sign on the east side of town to remember this important event.
Where is Worth Located?
Worth is found on the west side of the Middle Fork Grand River. It's about five miles south of a larger town called Grant City.
Unique Landmarks in Worth
One of the most unique things about Worth is a gazebo. It stands right in the middle of the road where Main Street and Washington Street meet! It's a very unusual and charming landmark. The village also has a business called WoCo Moto, which is located on Main Street, right next to the gazebo.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village covers a total area of about 0.65 square kilometers (0.25 square miles). All of this area is land, with no large bodies of water.
