Worthen Meadow Reservoir is a special lake found in the Shoshone National Forest in Fremont County, Wyoming. It's not a natural lake, but a man-made one called a reservoir. This means it was created by building a large wall, called a dam, across a creek.

The reservoir gets its water from Roaring Fork Creek. It holds about 1,500 acre-feet of water. An acre-foot is enough water to cover one acre of land with water one foot deep. The surface of the water is very high up, at about 8,819 ft (2,688 m) above sea level.

Building the Reservoir

The dam that created Worthen Meadow Reservoir was built in 1958. It's an earth-fill dam, meaning it's made mostly of packed dirt and rocks. This dam has two main parts.

The total length of the dam is about 917 ft (280 m). At its tallest point, it stands about 43 ft (13 m) above the Roaring Fork Creek bed. The reservoir helps supply extra water to the city of Lander, Wyoming.

Keeping the Reservoir Safe

Worthen Meadow Reservoir is located about 17 mi (27 km) upstream from the city of Lander. Because of its location, it's very important that the dam stays strong and safe.

The dam has been regularly checked and made stronger over the years. This helps make sure it remains in excellent condition. These efforts help protect the city of Lander and everyone downstream.
