A Look Back: Wyrallah's History

Wyrallah has an interesting past, especially when it comes to timber. In 1865, Wyrallah became very important. It was the first place in the entire Richmond River valley to have a big, permanent sawmill. A sawmill is a factory where logs are cut into planks and boards.

Much of the wood for this sawmill came from a huge nearby rainforest called the Big Scrub. This rainforest was full of valuable trees. Wyrallah was also a key stop for boats and ships traveling along the Wilsons River. Back then, the Wilsons River was often called the North Arm of the Richmond River. This made Wyrallah a busy place for moving goods and people by water.
