The XFL was a professional American football league. It was started in 2000 by Vince McMahon, who owns the World Wrestling Federation (WWF). The league was meant to be a big sports league that played when the NFL was not in season.
However, the XFL did not find enough fans. It closed down after playing only one season in 2001. The Los Angeles Xtreme were the first and only champions of the XFL. Both the WWF and the TV channel NBC lost about $35 million each because the league did not succeed.
