Starting Out in Baseball
Xavier Scruggs went to Poway High School in Poway, California. After high school, the Seattle Mariners picked him in the 2005 baseball draft. However, he decided not to sign with them. Instead, he chose to go to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). There, he played college baseball for the UNLV Rebels. During his three years at UNLV, he was a strong hitter. He hit 34 home runs and had 112 runs batted in (RBIs).
Playing for the St. Louis Cardinals

Scruggs was called up to play in the major leagues for the first time on September 4, 2014. His time in the major leagues that year was short. He started the next season playing for the Memphis Redbirds, a minor league team. He played very well in April 2015, hitting .274 with five home runs. Because of his great performance, he was named the Cardinals' organization's Player of the Month. The Cardinals then called him back up to the major leagues on June 19, 2015. Just a few days later, he had a fantastic game against the Miami Marlins. He got three hits and two RBIs, including a double that tied the game. The Cardinals went on to win that game 4–3. He had another strong game on June 27, getting three hits and two RBIs in an 8–1 win over the Chicago Cubs.
Time with the Miami Marlins
On November 30, 2015, Scruggs signed a contract with the Miami Marlins. He was called up to play first base for the Marlins on August 19, 2016. The very next day, August 20, he hit his first career major league home run! It was a two-run shot that helped the Marlins win 3–1.
Playing in South Korea
After his time in MLB, Scruggs signed a contract to play for the NC Dinos in the KBO League in South Korea. This was on December 26, 2016. He played two successful years with the Dinos. During his time there, he hit an impressive 61 home runs and drove in 208 runs. He became a free agent after the 2018 season.
