Yūki Nagasato (永里 優季, Nagasato Yūki, born 15 July 1987) is a famous Japanese professional footballer. She plays as a striker for the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) club Houston Dash. For a few years, from 2012 to 2016, she was known as Yūki Ōgimi.

Yūki Nagasato made history as the first female footballer to play for a men's team in Japan. She played for the Japanese national team from 2004 to 2016. During this time, she scored 58 goals in 132 games! She helped Japan win the FIFA Women's World Cup in 2011. She was also part of the team that finished second in the 2015 World Cup.

Yūki Nagasato was born in Atsugi, Japan, on July 15, 1987. She started her professional football journey very young.

Early Career in Japan

In 2001, Yūki joined the senior team of Nippon TV Beleza after playing in their youth team. She made her first appearance in the L.League in 2002. By 2006, she was one of the best goal-scorers in the league. She helped her team win the league championship six times between 2001 and 2008.

Playing in Germany and England

In 2010, Yūki moved to Germany to play for 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam. There, she became the top goal-scorer in the Bundesliga, which is Germany's top women's football league. She also won the UEFA Women's Champions League with Turbine Potsdam. This is a huge competition for top European clubs! In 2013, she moved to England to play for Chelsea in the FA Women's Super League.

In early 2015, Yūki joined Wolfsburg in Germany. She wanted to play in a very strong league before the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup. Later that year, in August 2015, she moved to Frankfurt, a team that had just won the UEFA Champions League.

Adventures in the USA and Australia

On May 24, 2017, Yūki signed with the Chicago Red Stars in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) in the United States. She played in 6 games in 2017 because of an injury. In 2018, she was even named Player of the Week!

In October 2018, Yūki went on loan to Brisbane Roar in Australia for their 2018–19 season.

Making History with a Men's Team

On September 10, 2020, Yūki Nagasato did something amazing. She became the first woman to play for Hayabusa Eleven, which is a men's football team in Japan! She joined them on loan before the 2021 NWSL season began.

After that, on October 26, 2020, a new team called Racing Louisville FC announced that Yūki was one of their first players. She played for them in the 2021 NWSL season.

On January 11, 2022, the Chicago Red Stars announced that Yūki would be returning to their team. She played for them again in 2022 and 2023.

Most recently, on January 12, 2024, she signed with her current club, Houston Dash.

Yūki Nagasato has had a fantastic career playing for her country, Japan.

Representing Japan

In April 2004, Yūki was chosen to play for the Japan national team for the 2004 Summer Olympics qualification games. She made her first international appearance on April 22 against Thailand. She also played for Japan in the 2008 Summer Olympics and the 2007 World Cup.

World Cup Champion

Yūki was a key part of the Japan team that won the 2011 World Cup! In the final game against the United States, she came on as a substitute. The game went to penalty kicks, and even though her penalty was saved, Japan still won the championship.

After 2016, she wore the number 10 jersey for Japan, a special number often given to star players. Later, she switched to the number 9 jersey.

Yūki Nagasato's Family Life

Yūki comes from a family of footballers! Her brother, Genki, is also a professional footballer. Her younger sister, Asano, also played football for Turbine Potsdam, the same German club Yūki played for.

In July 2011, Yūki changed her last name to Ōgimi. She used this name during the 2012 Summer Olympics. In 2016, she changed her name back to Nagasato.
