Yaakov Neeman (Hebrew: יעקב נאמן, born September 16, 1939 – died January 1, 2017) was an important Israeli lawyer. He also held significant roles in the Israeli government. He served as the Minister of Justice and the Minister of Finance.

Life and Education
Yaakov Neeman was born in Tel Aviv. This was during a time known as the Mandate era. He grew up in a family that followed religious Zionism.
He attended Midrashiat Noam, a high-school yeshiva. After high school, he completed his military service. He served in the Golani Brigade.
Neeman then chose to study law. He went to the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He earned his first law degree there in 1964. He continued his studies in the United States. In 1965, he earned a master's degree in law from New York University. He received his doctorate in law in 1968.
Starting a Law Firm
After finishing his studies, Neeman returned to Israel. In 1972, he helped start a law firm. It was called Herzog, Fox & Ne'eman. He founded this firm with Chaim Herzog, who later became the President of Israel.
Government Roles
Yaakov Neeman took on several important jobs in the Israeli government. These roles showed his dedication to public service.
Early Government Work
From 1979 to 1981, Neeman worked as the Director General of the Finance Ministry. This was a key role in managing Israel's money.
In June 1996, he became the Minister of Justice. Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu appointed him to this position. At that time, Neeman was not a member of the Knesset, which is Israel's parliament.
Returning to Government
A short time later, he stepped down from his role as Justice Minister. However, he was later cleared of any wrongdoing. He returned to the government in July 1997. This time, he served as the Minister of Finance. He held this position until the 1999 elections.
In March 2009, Binyamin Netanyahu became Prime Minister again. Neeman was once more appointed as the Minister of Justice. He continued to serve in this important role.
Personal Life
Yaakov Neeman lived in the Talbiya area of Jerusalem. He passed away on January 1, 2017. He was survived by his wife and their six children.
