Yael Grobglas is an actress from Israel. She is most famous for playing Petra Solano in the TV show Jane the Virgin on The CW. She started her acting career in Israeli television. She became well-known among teenagers in Israel.
Yael also gained attention for her first movie role in the Israeli horror film Rabies (2010). This movie was shown at the Tribeca Film Festival and other events around the world. From 2010 to 2011, Grobglas had important roles in several big Israeli TV shows. In 2013, she was cast in The CW's historical drama Reign. She played Olivia, a noblewoman who was an old friend of Prince Francis.

Early Life and Talents
Yael Grobglas was born in Paris, France, on May 31, 1984. Her father, Jean Pierre Grobglas, comes from a French-Jewish family. Her mother, Eva, is from Austria and converted to Judaism. Both of her parents are artists.
When Yael was two years old, her family moved to Israel. They lived in the city of Ra'anana, where she grew up. From a young age, Yael showed a strong interest in performing. As a teenager, she studied and performed in professional dance and ballet groups. She also had a short career as a model, appearing in fashion shows and advertisements. Later, she realized she loved acting even more. Yael then studied acting at the Yoram Loewenstein Performing Arts Studio in Tel Aviv, Israel.
Acting Career Highlights
In 2007, Yael Grobglas got her first big role in the Israeli sci-fi series "The Island." This show made her very popular with young people in Israel. After two seasons of the show, Grobglas joined a three-year acting program. She finished filming the third season of "The Island" in 2010. During her acting studies, she also appeared in many major commercials.
Early Film and TV Roles
In 2010, Grobglas became known internationally when she starred in Rabies. This was the first horror film made in Israel. She was also part of the main cast of the Israeli comedy show HaShualim (The Foxes). Grobglas also performed in a play called Play It Again, Sam at the Beersheba Theater. In 2012, Grobglas was cast in the Israeli comedy-drama series Tanuchi ("Chill").
Breaking Through in the US
In 2013, Grobglas played America Singer in a TV pilot for the CW called The Selection. This show was described as a mix of The Bachelor and The Hunger Games. However, the show was not picked up to become a full series. In the same year, she started a recurring role as Olivia D'Amencourt in The CW's series Reign.
In 2014, Grobglas got the role of Petra, one of the main characters in The CW's Jane the Virgin. She played Petra Solano and her twin sister Anežka Archuletta. Yael enjoyed playing Petra because the character was "complex and layered and funny." She said Petra was "calculating, resourceful and manipulative." Yael found it fun to play such a mischievous character because Petra was very different from her. In January 2015, Time magazine praised Grobglas. They said she made Petra "one of television's most amusingly complex comic villains."
In March 2016, TVLine praised Grobglas for her performance in Jane the Virgin. They noted her amazing ability to mix humor and emotion, especially when her character gave birth to twins.
In 2015, Grobglas also starred in JeruZalem, an English-language Israeli horror film. She acted alongside Yon Tumarkin and Danielle Jadelyn. In 2024, Daniel Feinberg of the Hollywood Reporter liked Yael's guest appearance in the CBS series Matlock. She played a human lie detector.
Personal Life
Yael Grobglas is married to Artem Kroupenev, who is an Israeli businessman. They were high school sweethearts. They have a home in Tel Aviv, Israel. On September 22, 2019, Grobglas shared on Instagram that she was expecting her first child. On January 17, 2020, she announced the birth of her baby girl, Arielle.
Grobglas has said she loves food, cooking, and hosting dinner parties. She avoids eating meat. In 2012, she became a pescetarian (someone who eats fish but not other meat) before moving to the United States.
