Yael Grobglas (born May 31, 1984) is an Israeli actress. She is best known for playing Petra Solano on the TV show Jane the Virgin.
Her first big role was in an Israeli science fiction TV series called Ha'i (The Island). This show was popular with teenagers in Israel from 2007 to 2009. She also became known for her first movie role in the Israeli horror film Rabies (2010). This movie was shown at the Tribeca Film Festival and other places around the world.
From 2010 to 2011, Yael played many important roles in Israeli TV shows. These included the comedies Ha-Shualim (The Foxes) and Ramzor (Traffic Light). She also appeared in the fantasy series Hatzuya (Split). Yael Grobglas was also "The Girl" in the music video for "Say You Like Me" by We the Kings. She played Gabi in the Israeli TV drama Tanuhi (Relax) in 2012. In 2013, she was chosen for the main role of America Singer in a TV pilot called The Selection, but the show wasn't made. That same year, Yael was cast as Olivia in the historical drama Reign. Olivia was an old friend of Prince Francis.

Early Life and Growing Up
Yael Grobglas was born in Paris, France. Her father, Jean Pierre Grobglas, comes from a French-Jewish family. Her mother, Eva, was originally from Austria and later became Jewish. Both of her parents are artists. Some of her father's relatives died in the Holocaust.
In 1986, when Yael was two years old, her family moved to Israel. They lived in the city of Ra'anana, where she grew up.
Discovering Her Talents
Even as a young girl, Yael showed a strong talent for performing. As a teenager, she studied and performed in professional dance and ballet groups. She also had a short career as a model. She walked in fashion shows and appeared in advertisements. Later, she realized she was more interested in acting. Yael then graduated from the Yoram Loewenstein Performing Arts Studio in Tel Aviv, Israel.
Acting Career
In 2007, Yael Grobglas got her first major role in the Israeli science fiction series "The Island." This show made her very popular with young people in Israel. After two seasons of the show, Yael joined a three-year acting program. She finished filming the third season of "The Island" in 2010. While studying acting, she also appeared in many big commercials.
First Big Roles
In 2010, Yael became known around the world when she starred in Rabies, the first Israeli horror film. She was also a main cast member in the Israeli comedy show HaShualim (The Foxes). Yael also played Linda Christie in a play called Play It Again, Sam at the Beersheba Theater.
In 2012, Grobglas was cast in the Israeli comedy-drama series Tanuchi ("Chill").
Moving to American TV
In 2013, Yael Grobglas played America Singer in the CW's pilot for The Selection. This show was described as a mix of The Bachelor and The Hunger Games. However, the network decided not to make it into a full series. In the same year, she started a recurring role as Olivia D'Amencourt in The CW's series Reign.
In 2014, Yael Grobglas was cast as Petra, one of the main characters on The CW's Jane the Virgin. She told the New York Times that she usually plays more silly or tomboy characters. She said she loved playing Petra because the character was "complex and layered and funny." Yael also mentioned that Petra is "calculating, resourceful and manipulative." She added, "Even though I don't agree with the decisions she makes, you have to admire her. It's been a blast playing such a mischievous character because she's so unlike me." In January 2015, Time magazine said that Yael Grobglas had made Petra "one of television's most amusingly complex comic villains." Fans loved to dislike her, but as the show revealed more about Petra's past, they started to like her too.
In 2015, Yael Grobglas starred with Yon Tumarkin and Danielle Jadelyn in JeruZalem, an English-language Israeli horror film.
In March 2016, TVLine praised Yael Grobglas for her acting in Jane the Virgin. They noted her amazing ability to mix humor and feelings, especially when her character gave birth to twins. They said they couldn't wait to see what challenges and funny moments motherhood would bring for Petra.
In 2024, Daniel Feinberg from the Hollywood Reporter liked Yael's performance in the CBS series Matlock. She played a character who could tell if someone was lying.
Personal Life
Yael Grobglas is married to Artem Kroupenev, an Israeli businessman. They were high school sweethearts. They have a home in Tel Aviv, Israel. On September 22, 2019, Yael announced on Instagram that she was expecting her first child. On January 17, 2020, she shared that she had given birth to a baby girl named Arielle.
Yael Grobglas has said she loves food, cooking, and hosting dinner parties. She does not eat meat. In 2012, before moving to the United States, she became a pescetarian, meaning she eats fish but no other meat.
