Yakamia is a suburb located very close to the city of Albany. It was created in the 1970s and officially recognized in 1979. The name Yakamia comes from the Noongar people, who are the traditional owners of this land. In their language, Yakamia means "sister to a small creek."
Where is Yakamia?
Yakamia is surrounded by several roads. North Road is to its south, and Chester Pass Road is to its west. Hudson and Bond Roads are to the north, and Ulster Road is to the southeast. A small waterway called Yakamia Creek flows through the suburb.
