The Yakovlev Yak-42 (known as 'Clobber' by NATO) is a type of civilian airplane. It was designed and built in the USSR by a company called Yakovlev. This plane was made between 1980 and 2003.
The Yak-42 looks a bit like the Boeing 727 airplane. It uses three turbojet engines. This aircraft can carry up to 120 passengers on its flights.
Who Used the Yak-42?
The main users of the Yak-42 were the Soviets. Airlines in countries that were part of the Warsaw Pact also used them. The Warsaw Pact was a group of countries in Eastern Europe that worked together.
Some Yak-42 planes were also used in Africa and Asia. Both Russia and Ukraine used military versions of this aircraft.
