Yam Madar (Hebrew: ים מדר) is a professional basketball player from Israel. He was born on December 21, 2000. Yam plays for Hapoel Tel Aviv in the Israeli Premier League and the EuroCup. He also plays for the Israel national team.
Yam joined Hapoel Tel Aviv in 2018 when he was just 17 years old. This made him one of the youngest players ever for the club. Two years later, he became the youngest player to win the Israeli Premier League Most Improved Player award. He also helped Israel win a gold medal at the 2019 FIBA U20 European Championship. Yam was even named to the All-Tournament Team at this event. In the 2020 NBA draft, the Boston Celtics picked Yam Madar as the 47th overall player.

About Yam Madar
Yam Madar grew up in Beit Dagan, Israel. His family is of Mizrahi Jewish background, specifically Yemenite-Jewish. His father, Zohar Madar, used to be the mayor of Beit Dagan. In Hebrew, Yam's first name means "sea."
Yam started playing basketball in youth teams. He played for Maccabi Beit Dagan and later for Hapoel Tel Aviv's youth teams.
Yam's Professional Basketball Journey
Playing for Hapoel Tel Aviv (2018–2021)
On June 24, 2018, Yam Madar signed a four-year contract with Hapoel Tel Aviv. He played his first game on September 21, 2018. This was a FIBA Champions League qualifying match against Spirou Charleroi. He played for 15 minutes as a substitute.
On July 3, 2020, Yam had his best game yet, scoring 28 points. He shot very well, making 11 of 17 shots. This was in a close game that Hapoel Tel Aviv lost 106–105 to Maccabi Ashdod. In the playoffs against Maccabi Tel Aviv, Yam was the top scorer for his team. He averaged 17.3 points per game. He also had 5.3 assists, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.0 steals. Even with his great play, Maccabi Tel Aviv won the series. In Hapoel's only win, Yam scored 22 points.
In July, Yam Madar was named the Israeli Premier League Most Improved Player. He was the youngest player ever to get this award. In 2021, he was also chosen for the All-League Second Team. During the 2020–21 season, he averaged 17.1 points and 5.2 assists per game. He also shot well from three-point range, making 40.9% of his shots.
Time with Partizan (2021–2023)
On August 18, 2021, Yam Madar joined the Serbian club Partizan. They play in the ABA League. In the 2022–23 season, Yam played in the EuroLeague for the first time. Partizan played against Real Madrid in the playoffs, but they were eliminated. That season, Yam averaged 5.8 points and 1.6 assists per game. Partizan finished the 2022–23 season by winning the ABA League championship. They beat Crvena zvezda 3–2 in the Finals.
Playing for Fenerbahçe (2023–2024)
On July 12, 2023, Yam Madar signed a contract with the Turkish club Fenerbahçe. He played there for about a year.
Short Time with Bayern Munich (2024)
On July 16, 2024, Yam Madar signed with Bayern Munich. This team plays in the Basketball Bundesliga in Germany and the EuroLeague. However, on November 28 of the same year, Yam left the German club.
Back to Hapoel Tel Aviv (2024–Present)
On November 28, 2024, Yam Madar returned to play for Hapoel Tel Aviv.
NBA Draft and Summer League
The Boston Celtics picked Yam Madar in the 2020 NBA draft. He was the 47th player chosen overall. However, he continued to play for Hapoel Tel Aviv for the 2020–21 season. He later played for the Celtics in the 2021 NBA summer league. In his first game, he scored 8 points in 17 minutes. The Celtics won that game 85–83 against the Atlanta Hawks.
Playing for His Country
Junior National Team
In July 2018, Yam Madar played for the Israeli Under-18 team. This was at the 2018 FIBA Europe Under-18 Championship Division B. He averaged 11.4 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1.8 steals per game.
In July 2019, Yam helped the Israeli Under-20 team win the 2019 FIBA Europe Under-20 Championship. Yam was the best player in the tournament for assists, with 7.7 per game. He also scored 15.9 points, grabbed 3.1 rebounds, and made 1.4 steals per game. He earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team along with his teammate Deni Avdija.
