Yankee Jims is a tiny community located in Placer County, California. It's also known as Yankee Jim or Yankee Jim's. This small place sits high up in the Sierra Nevada mountains, about 2,582 feet (787 meters) above sea level. It's found about 2.5 miles (4 km) northwest of Foresthill.

A Look Back at Yankee Jims
Yankee Jims was once a very busy place during the California Gold Rush. It was one of the biggest mining camps in Placer County. People came here hoping to find gold.
How Yankee Jims Got Its Name
The name "Yankee Jims" comes from an interesting story. An Australian criminal, known as Yankee Jim, used to hide stolen horses in this area. This was before anyone discovered gold there.
Yankee Jims Today
The post office in Yankee Jims was open for many years, from 1852 until 1940. Today, Yankee Jims is a very small town. It's mostly just a few houses grouped together. In 2016, only 18 people lived there.
Historical Landmark
The spot where the town once stood is now marked as California Historical Landmark #398. This special marker is located on a ridge. It sits between the North and Middle forks of the American River.
