The Yarkon River (called Nahal HaYarkon in Hebrew: Hebrew: נחל הירקון) is an important river in central Israel. It starts in the Yarkon National Garden near a town called Rosh HaAyin. From there, it flows through several cities and parks before reaching the Mediterranean Sea.

The river passes by the city of Petah Tikva. Then, it goes through the Yarkon Park in the northern part of the Tel Aviv area. It flows past cities like Bnei Brak and Ramat Gan. Finally, the Yarkon River goes through Tel Aviv and empties into the Mediterranean Sea near the Tel Aviv Port.

A River with a Long History

The Yarkon River has a history that goes back more than 2,000 years! It is even mentioned in the Hebrew Bible. In the Bible, the Yarkon River is described as a border for the Tribe of Dan. This was one of the twelve tribes of ancient Israelites.
