The yellow-wattled bulbul (Poliolophus urostictus) is a special kind of songbird. It belongs to the bulbul family of passerine birds. This bird is only found in the Philippines, which means it is endemic there.

What is the Yellow-Wattled Bulbul?
The yellow-wattled bulbul is a small bird known for its beautiful songs. It gets its name from the yellow "wattles" or fleshy growths near its eyes. These birds are part of a larger group called bulbuls.
Where Does This Bird Live?
The yellow-wattled bulbul lives only in the Philippines. This makes it a very special bird because it cannot be found naturally anywhere else in the world. Its home is in the thick, moist forests of the lowlands.
Different Types of Yellow-Wattled Bulbuls
Scientists have found five different types, or subspecies, of the yellow-wattled bulbul. Each type lives in a specific part of the Philippines.
- P. u. ilokensis - This type lives in northern Luzon. It was first described by Rand and Rabor in 1967.
- P. u. urostictus - This is the main type. It lives in central and southern Luzon, Catanduanes, and Polillo Island. Tommaso Salvadori first described it in 1870.
- P. u. atricaudatus - You can find this type on Samar, Biliran, Leyte, Bohol, Negros, and Panaon Island. Parkes described it in 1967.
- P. u. philippensis - This type lives on Dinagat, Siargao, Bucas Grande, and most of Mindanao. Hachisuka described it in 1934.
- P. u. basilanicus - This type is found in the Zamboanga Peninsula (western Mindanao) and Basilan. Steere described it in 1890.
