Yeongam is a county in South Jeolla Province, South Korea. It's located in the southwestern part of the country. Yeongam is surrounded by other cities and counties like Mokpo, Naju, Jangheung, Haenam, and Gangjin.
This county is made up of two eups (towns) and nine myeons (townships). About 57,000 people live here. The main government office for the county is in Yeongam-eup.

Hosting the Korean Grand Prix
From 2010 to 2013, Yeongam was home to the Korean Grand Prix. This was a big Formula One car race. The race took place at the Korea International Circuit, which is right by the harbor.
A famous race track designer named Hermann Tilke created the circuit. Part of the track was built permanently, and part was temporary. Construction started in 2007 and finished in late 2010. The circuit had a plan to host the Grand Prix until 2016, but the race stopped after 2013.

Local Industries
Yeongam is an important place for industry. Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (HSHI) is located here in Samho Eup. This company is one of the biggest shipbuilders in the world. It is also the largest company in South Jeolla Province. Many other companies that work with HSHI are also found in the Daebul Industrial District in Samho Eup.
