Yeoval is a small village in the Central Western part of New South Wales, Australia. It's located in Cabonne Shire. A small section of the village, called North Yeoval, is actually in Wellington Shire. Yeoval sits between the towns of Dubbo and Orange.
This village was the childhood home of the famous Australian poet Banjo Paterson. He lived on a nearby property called Buckinbah. Many of his poems were inspired by the beautiful landscapes around Yeoval. You can visit a special museum dedicated to Banjo Paterson in the village.

Yeoval's Past: A Look Back
Yeoval is a village in the Central West of New South Wales. It is located in the middle of Orange, Dubbo, Parkes, and Wellington.
Gold, Silver, and Copper
In 1868, valuable metals like gold, silver, and copper were found about 7 kilometers from Yeoval. A mine called Goodrich Mine operated in this area for many years, until 1971.
Post Office and Railway
The Yeoval Post Office first opened its doors on 1 November 1884. Later, in 1925, the Yeoval railway station began operating. It was part of the Molong–Dubbo railway line, which is now closed. Passenger trains stopped running to Yeoval in 1974.

Population Numbers
In the 2016 census, there were 430 people living in Yeoval. Most people (84.7%) were born in Australia. Also, 91.6% of people spoke only English at home. The most common religion was Catholic, with 26.3% of residents.
By the 2021 census, the population had dropped slightly to 330 people.
Learning in Yeoval: Schools
Yeoval has several schools for students of different ages.
- Yeoval Central School: This school teaches students from kindergarten all the way up to Year 12. It has been open for over 125 years! Older students can choose from 35 different courses for their HSC (Higher School Certificate).
- St Columba's Catholic School: This is a smaller school with about 25 students. It is located across from the Catholic Church.
- Yeoval Pre-School: This is a small preschool run by the community for younger children.

Banjo Paterson Bush Park
The Banjo Paterson Bush Park is next to Buckinbah Creek. It's a great place to see several unique sculptures.
The Big Hat Sculpture
One of the most eye-catching sculptures in the park is a giant hat, like the one Banjo Paterson might have worn. This huge hat was first used to help sell real estate. In February 2017, its former owner donated it to the park.
Henry Moore Artwork
The park also features a very tall, 6-meter-high sculpture. It weighs six tonnes! This abstract artwork shows the famous sculptor Henry Moore. It was created by his student, Drago Marin Cherina.
Banjo Paterson Museum
The Banjo Paterson... More Than a Poet Cafe and Museum is a must-visit. It holds many items that tell the story of the poet's life. You can see handwritten letters, poems that were never published, old photos, stories, and other items from that time.
