A Look Back in Time

The Cabonne area has an interesting history. The very first gold rush in Australia happened at a place called Ophir, which is within the Cabonne Shire today.

The Cabonne Shire Council was officially formed in 1978. This happened when three smaller councils – Molong Shire, Boree Shire, and most of Canobolas Shire – joined together.

In 2015, there was a plan to combine Cabonne Shire with Orange City and Blayney Shire Councils. However, the government decided not to go ahead with these plans, so Cabonne remains its own council area.
