The Journey of Yocum Creek
Yocum Creek starts high up on a mountainside. This starting point is called its headwaters. It begins about two miles south of a town called Green Forest.
Flowing North
From its source, the creek flows generally north. It runs alongside Arkansas Highway 103 for a bit. As it passes the western edge of Green Forest, it goes under U.S. Route 62.
Reaching Table Rock Lake
The creek continues its journey, winding north and northeast. It flows past the small community of Yocum. Eventually, it reaches and flows into Table Rock Lake. This happens in the very northeast corner of Carroll County.
Before Table Rock Lake was created by flooding, Yocum Creek joined Long Creek. This meeting point, called a confluence, was just north of a community named Enon. Enon is now underwater because of the lake.
History of the Creek's Name
Yocum Creek is named after a person named John Yocum. He moved to this area in 1836 from southern Missouri.
The Old Mill
John Yocum built a mill right on the creek. A mill is a building where grain is ground into flour, often using the power of flowing water. This mill was very important for the local community back then. Sadly, the mill was destroyed by a fire in the 1920s.
