Yorkville's History
The first person to settle in the area that would become Yorkville was John C. Kuykendall. He came from York District, South Carolina, in 1830. He built a home and a store, and soon other settlers joined him.
By 1850, Yorkville officially became a town, or "incorporated." W.H. Miller was chosen as its first mayor. The town grew over time. A hotel, called the Yorkville Hotel, opened in 1840. By 1870, a flour mill and a cotton gin were also working in Yorkville. These businesses helped the town's economy.
