What YCAT Does
YCAT finds and supports amazing young musicians. They do this by holding competitions. If you are a young musician, you can apply to take part. For example, in 2010, 120 people applied!
The competition has a few stages:
- First, there are two rounds to pick the best musicians.
- Then, a final competition happens in a big concert hall. People come to watch and listen.
What Winners Get
If you win a YCAT competition, you get some amazing chances! Winners get to play in several concerts. They perform in famous places like the Wigmore Hall and Purcell Room in London. They also play at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester. These are big steps for a young musician's career.
YCAT's History and Support
YCAT was started in 1984 by Michael Kaye. It has been holding competitions for over 25 years. Both single musicians and small music groups (called chamber groups) can win.
YCAT gets its money from different groups and people. These supporters give money to help YCAT continue its work. This support allows YCAT to help new generations of musicians.
Celebrating 25 Years
In 2010, YCAT celebrated its 25th birthday! They held two special concerts at the Wigmore Hall. Past YCAT winners played music together with the new winners. It was a big celebration of talent.
