Rabbi Zalman Nechemia Goldberg (Hebrew: זלמן נחמיה גולדברג; January 28, 1931 – August 20, 2020) was a very respected Jewish leader in Israel. He was known as a rabbi, a posek (someone who makes decisions on Jewish law), and a rosh yeshiva (head of a religious school). He came from a well-known Jewish family from Lithuania. He was also the son-in-law of another famous rabbi, Shlomo Zalman Auerbach.

Who Was Rabbi Goldberg?
Rabbi Goldberg was a very important expert in halakha, which is Jewish law. He served as the Chief Justice of the Rabbinical High Court in Jerusalem. This court makes big decisions about Jewish life. He gave rulings on topics like gittin (Jewish divorce documents) and ketubot (marriage contracts). He also ruled on modern issues like artificial insemination. He even gave guidance on the important commandment of living in the Land of Israel.
His Important Roles
Rabbi Goldberg helped create a special Jewish prenuptial agreement. He worked on this with Rabbi Mordechai Willig. This agreement was supported by the Rabbinical Council of America. It helps protect couples in Jewish marriages.
Teaching and Leadership
Rabbi Goldberg was the head of two important schools. He led the Sadigura Hasidic yeshiva. He also led the Jerusalem College of Technology (Machon Lev). He was in charge of the Institute for the Higher Study of Halacha (Machon Iyun Ha'Halacha) in Jerusalem. He often gave lectures on Jewish law at Chabad's Yeshivat Torat Emet in Jerusalem.
Rabbinic Ordination
Rabbi Goldberg was also well known for his semicha (rabbinic ordination) exams. Many people chose to take his exams. They were often seen as a good alternative to the exams offered by the Israeli Rabbinate.
Editor of Jewish Texts
In 2008, Rabbi Goldberg became the main editor of the Encyclopedia Talmudit. This is a huge collection of Jewish law and teachings.
A Book and His Opinion
In 2009, Rabbi Goldberg wrote a note supporting a book called The King's Torah. However, he later changed his mind. He said that the book included ideas that "have no place in human intelligence." This showed his strong belief in clear and logical thinking.
His Final Days
Rabbi Goldberg passed away on August 20, 2020. He was at the Hadassah Medical Center in Ein Kerem, Jerusalem. He had collapsed at his home a week before. His funeral was held at the Shamgar Funeral house. He was buried in the Mount of Olives cemetery.
