Mohamad Zaquan Adha bin Abd. Radzak (born 3 August 1987) is a Malaysian former professional footballer. He played as a forward. Zaquan is the younger of a set of twins. His brother, Aidil Zafuan, is also a well-known footballer.
Zaquan's Football Journey
Early Days and Negeri Sembilan
Zaquan started his football career playing for the Negeri Sembilan team. This was during the 2004 SUKMA Games. He and his twin brother, Aidil, won a gold medal in that competition. In the 2005–06 season, both brothers joined the senior team. That year, Negeri Sembilan also won their first ever Malaysia Super League title.
Playing for Malaysian Armed Forces
In December 2011, Zaquan joined the Malaysia Premier League team, Malaysian Armed Forces FA. He helped his new club win the 2012 Malaysia Premier League title. They also reached the final of the 2012 Malaysia Cup. However, they lost the final match 3–2 to Kelantan.
Time with Johor Darul Ta'zim
For the 2013 season, Zaquan moved to the club Johor Darul Ta'zim F.C.. His twin brother also joined him there. Unfortunately, Zaquan suffered a knee injury in April. This injury kept him from playing for the rest of that season.
Moving to Johor Darul Ta'zim II
On 9 November 2013, Zaquan moved to Johor Darul Ta'zim II F.C.. This team played in the Malaysia Premier League. He played there for three seasons.
Playing for Perak TBG
On 21 December 2016, Zaquan signed a one-year contract with Perak TBG F.C.. This club was in the Malaysia Super League. He scored his first goal for Perak in a 2–2 draw against Felda United. He also scored a penalty goal against Selangor FA, helping his team win 1–0.
Time with Kuala Lumpur
On 5 December 2017, Zaquan joined Kuala Lumpur. This team had just been promoted to a higher league. He scored his first goal for them in his very first game. It was a thrilling 4–3 win against Kedah FA. He scored another important goal in the 2018 Malaysia FA Cup quarter-finals.
Return to Negeri Sembilan
In December 2020, Zaquan signed with Negeri Sembilan. This was the same club where he started his professional career, but it had been rebranded. He played a big role in the 2021 season. He scored 7 goals in 16 games. His efforts helped Negeri Sembilan get promoted to the Malaysia Super League as champions.
On 14 March 2024, Zaquan announced that he was retiring from football.
Zaquan's International Career
Playing for Youth Teams
Zaquan started representing Malaysia at just 14 years old. His twin brother, Aidil, was also part of these teams. He was in the Malaysia youth squad for the 2004 AFC Youth Championship. He later scored 2 goals in a qualifier for the 2006 AFC Youth Championship. This helped Malaysia reach the main tournament. However, he could not play in the tournament due to an injury.
Playing for Malaysia U23
Zaquan was called up to the Malaysia U23 national team. This was for a 2008 Olympic games qualifier. During the 2007 Merdeka Tournament, Zaquan scored 3 goals. One of these goals was in the final against Myanmar. Malaysia won that game 3–1 and took home the trophy. He also played in the 2007 Southeast Asian Games.
Playing for the Senior National Team
Zaquan made his debut for the senior national team in 2007. This was against Bahrain in a 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifier. He played regularly for the national team from 2008 to 2010. He missed some tournaments due to injuries.
In 2018, he was chosen as the captain for a match against Lebanon. He also scored 4 goals in a friendly match against Bhutan. Malaysia won that game 7–0. He was also the captain for Malaysia in the 2018 AFF Cup. Malaysia finished as the runners-up in that tournament.
Zaquan also played for Malaysia XI in friendly matches. These matches were against famous European clubs like Chelsea in 2008 and Manchester United in 2009.
