Zenda got its name from a famous adventure novel called The Prisoner of Zenda. The city was officially started in 1887. It became an incorporated city in 1913.

The number of people living in Zenda has changed quite a bit over the years. In 1920, there were 188 residents. The population grew to 252 by 1940, which was its highest point. Since then, the number of people has slowly decreased. By 2020, 72 people lived in Zenda.

Schools in Zenda

Zenda is part of the Cunningham–West Kingman County USD 332 public school district. Students in the area attend Cunningham High School, and their sports teams are called the Cunningham Wildcats.

Years ago, the schools in Zenda and nearby Nashville joined together in 1964. They were known as the Nashville-Zenda schools. The Nashville-Zenda Thunderbirds football team even won the Kansas State High School 8-Man football championship in 1969! The original Zenda High School mascot was the Zenda Gorillas.
