The Zero candy bar is a special kind of candy bar. It has a mix of gooey caramel, crunchy peanuts, and soft almond nougat. All of this is covered in a smooth, white fudge. Its white color makes it stand out from most other candy bars. This white coating is not real white chocolate because it doesn't have cocoa butter. The Zero bar is a bit like a Snickers bar, but it's white instead of brown.

The Story of the Zero Bar

The Zero bar first came out in the 1920s. It was first called "Double Zero." This name was chosen to make it sound cool and refreshing. In 1934, its name was shortened to just "Zero."

Why Zero Was Popular in the South

The white coating on the Zero bar melts at a higher temperature. This was a big advantage before air conditioning was common. People in the Southern United States liked it because it wouldn't melt as easily in the summer heat. This made it a popular choice for vending machines.

Who Owned the Zero Bar Over Time

The company that first made the Zero bar was Hollywood Brands. In 1967, Hollywood Brands was sold to Consolidated Foods Corporation. This company later became known as Sara Lee. Even after a factory fire in 1980, production of the Zero bar continued. A new factory opened in 1983.

In 1988, a company from Finland called Huhtamäki bought Hollywood Brands. It then became part of Leaf, Inc. Later, in 1996, Hershey Foods Corporation took over Leaf's candy operations in North America. Since then, Hershey has been making the Zero candy bar.

Each bar in the pack is individually wrapped and weighs 1.85 ounces (52 g).

What People Think of the Zero Bar

The Zero bar has received different opinions over the years. In October 2020, Rhett & Link from the show Good Mythical Morning reviewed many candy bars. They jokingly called the Zero bar the "worst candy bar in the world" during their review.

Some people have described the Zero bar as a "white chocolate Snickers." However, the Zero bar actually came out about ten years before Snickers. Also, as mentioned before, its white coating does not contain cocoa butter. This means it doesn't technically count as real white chocolate.
