The Zero candy bar is a unique treat first made in 1920. It has a mix of chewy caramel, crunchy peanuts, and soft almond nougat. All of this is covered in a smooth layer of white chocolate fudge.

What makes the Zero bar special is its white color. Most candy bars are brown, so its white coating helps it stand out. This white coating also melts at a higher temperature than regular chocolate. This made the Zero bar a great choice for summer in places without air conditioning. The Zero bar is similar to a Snickers bar, but it is white instead of dark brown.

The Sweet History of the Zero Bar

The Zero bar was first created in 1920 by the Hollywood Brands candy company. This company was located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. When it first came out, it was called the "Double Zero Bar."

In 1934, its name was changed to simply "Zero." The "Double Zero" name was meant to suggest the bar was "cool," like a low temperature. The candy bar was first made in a factory in Centralia, Illinois. It continued to be made there even as the company changed owners many times.

Hollywood Brands was sold to Consolidated Foods Corporation in 1967. Later, this company became Sara Lee. Production of the Zero bar continued, even after a fire damaged the Centralia factory in 1980. A new factory opened in 1983 to keep making the candy.

In 1988, a company from Finland called Huhtamaki Oyj bought Hollywood Brands. The Zero bar then became part of Leaf, Inc. Finally, in 1996, Hershey Foods Corporation took over Leaf's candy operations in North America. This is how Hershey's started making the Zero candy bar.

You can also buy a larger "king size" Zero bar, which is about 3.4 ounces (96 g). For sharing or snacking, the candy is also sold in a pack of six. Each bar in this pack is individually wrapped and weighs 1.85 ounces (52 g).

What People Think of the Zero Bar

The Zero bar has received different opinions over the years. In October 2020, two popular YouTubers, Link Neal and Rhett McLaughlin, reviewed many candy bars. They host a show called Good Mythical Morning. In their review, they called the Zero bar the "worst candy bar in the world."

However, some people have described the Zero bar as a "white chocolate Snickers." It's interesting to note that the Zero bar was actually created ten years before the Snickers bar.
