The Story of Hershey's Chocolate Bars
The story of Hershey's chocolate bars began with a man named Milton S. Hershey. He started his first successful candy business in 1886, making caramels.
In 1893, Milton Hershey saw some amazing chocolate-making machines at a big fair in Chicago. He was so impressed that he decided to start making chocolate himself!
First, he bought the machines and began adding chocolate to his caramels. Then, in 1894, he created the Hershey Chocolate Company. This new company started making its own chocolate products.
Milton Hershey worked hard to find a way to make chocolate in large amounts. He figured out a special way to do this in 1899. Because of this, he sold his caramel business in 1900 but kept the chocolate part. In November of that same year, the very first Hershey chocolate bar was made and sold!

How Hershey's Milk Chocolate is Made
The special way Hershey's makes its milk chocolate is called the Hershey Process. This process uses fresh milk from local farms. Milton Hershey developed this method, which allowed chocolate to be made in large amounts for the first time in the United States.
Because of this unique process, Hershey's chocolate has a flavor that many people in the United States and the Philippines recognize. It's also somewhat known in Canada. However, in other parts of the world, especially where European chocolates are common, the taste might be less familiar.
The exact details of the Hershey Process are a company secret. Some experts believe that the milk is treated in a way that gives the chocolate a slightly "tangy" taste. This flavor has become what many Americans expect chocolate to taste like.
