Dr. Zohurul Hoque (born October 11, 1926 – died January 18, 2017) was a very smart person from India. He was both a doctor and a scholar of Islam. He became well-known for translating the Qur'an, which is the holy book of Islam. He translated it into three different languages: Bengali, Assamese, and English. Later in his life, he moved to Muscat, a city in Oman.

Translating the Quran
Dr. Zohurul Hoque spent many years working on his translations of the Quran. He wanted to make the holy book understandable to more people.
Bengali Translation
He started by working on a Bengali translation of the Quran. This was a huge project that took him 12 years to finish. He finally published this Bengali version in 1986.
Assamese Translation
Even before he finished the Bengali translation, Dr. Hoque began working on an Assamese version. He published this Assamese translation of the Quran in three separate books. This version became very popular and has been printed many times.
English Translation
In 1993, Dr. Hoque started his most ambitious project: an English translation of the Quran. He worked hard on this for several years. On April 1, 2000, he published a very large book. It was called Translation and Commentary on The Holy Quran. This book was part of a bigger effort known as the Holy Quran Pub Project.
Later Life and Passing
Dr. Zohurul Hoque passed away in Muscat, Oman, on January 18, 2017. He was buried in the Central Public Graveyard in a place called Al Amarat. His work helped many people around the world understand the Quran better.
