Zottegem is a city and municipality in Belgium. It is located in the region of Flanders, in the province of East Flanders. The name is sometimes spelled Sotteghem or Sottegem in older English and French texts.

The municipality of Zottegem includes the main town of Zottegem. It also has several smaller villages. These villages are Elene, Erwetegem, Godveerdegem, Grotenberge, Leeuwergem, Oombergen, Sint-Goriks-Oudenhove, Sint-Maria-Oudenhove, Strijpen, and Velzeke-Ruddershove.

As of January 1, 2018, Zottegem had a total population of 26,373 people. The total area of the municipality is about 56.66 square kilometers. This means there are about 470 people living in each square kilometer.

Zottegem is part of a hilly area known as the Flemish Ardennes. This region is famous for its hills and cobblestone streets. Some of these streets, like the Paddestraat, are often used in springtime bicycle races in Flanders.

The city is well-known for its connection to Lamoral, Count of Egmont. He was an important general and statesman. Zottegem has an Egmont Castle and an Egmont museum dedicated to him. You can also find two statues of him in the city center. He is buried in Egmont's crypt under the local church.
