Älvsbyn (which means "the river village") is a town in Sweden. It is the main town of Älvsbyn Municipality in Norrbotten County. In 2010, about 5,000 people lived there. People often call Älvsbyn "The Pearl of Norrbotten."

The town has a train station. You can take trains from here to bigger cities like Stockholm. Älvsbyn also has a youth hostel. It comes with a small park and a swimming pool for visitors to enjoy.

Climate in Älvsbyn

Älvsbyn is located right by the Pite River. Because it's in a valley, the weather can be special. Sometimes, cold air gets trapped near the ground. This is called a temperature inversion.

Seasons and Temperatures

This means that winter nights can get very, very cold. In fact, Älvsbyn often has some of the coldest average temperatures in Sweden for towns. The town has a subarctic climate. This means it experiences four clear seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Summers are warmer here than in places closer to the coast. This is because Älvsbyn is further inland. Winters can change a lot depending on the wind.

Sports Clubs

Älvsbyn is home to a few sports clubs. These clubs help people stay active and play different sports.
