Climate in Älvsbyn
Älvsbyn is located right by the Pite River. Because it's in a valley, the weather can be special. Sometimes, cold air gets trapped near the ground. This is called a temperature inversion.
Seasons and Temperatures
This means that winter nights can get very, very cold. In fact, Älvsbyn often has some of the coldest average temperatures in Sweden for towns. The town has a subarctic climate. This means it experiences four clear seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Summers are warmer here than in places closer to the coast. This is because Älvsbyn is further inland. Winters can change a lot depending on the wind.
