Étienne Boulay (born March 10, 1983) is a former Canadian football player. He played as a safety, which is a defensive position. Boulay played for the Montreal Alouettes for many years. He also played for the Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He is famous for winning three Grey Cup championships during his career. The Grey Cup is the championship trophy of the CFL.

Early Life and High School Football

Étienne Boulay played football at Kent School in Kent, Connecticut. In 2001, he was a very important player for his team. He played as a running back and a defensive back. He also served as the team captain. He helped Kent win the New England Class A Championship. After that season, Étienne was named the New England Class A Player of the Year. Before attending Kent School, he played defensive back at College Jean-Eudes in Montreal, Quebec.

College Football Career

Boulay played college football for the New Hampshire Wildcats from 2002 to 2005. In 2004, he played 13 games. He made 65 tackles and caught three interceptions. A tackle is when you stop an opponent with the ball. An interception is when you catch a pass meant for an opposing player. In 2005, he continued to play well. He recorded 66 tackles and five interceptions.

Playing for the Montreal Alouettes

The Montreal Alouettes picked Étienne Boulay in the 2006 CFL Draft. He was the 16th player chosen overall in the second round. In his first season, he was excellent on special teams. Special teams are units that play during kickoffs and punts. He finished fifth in the CFL with 20 special teams tackles. For his great performance, he won two awards in 2006. He was named the East Division Most Outstanding Rookie. He also won the Alouettes Most Outstanding Rookie award.

Time with the New York Jets

On January 18, 2008, Boulay signed a contract with the New York Jets. This team plays in the National Football League (NFL) in the United States. However, he was released by the Jets on July 24, 2008. This happened after the Jets signed their first-round draft pick.

Return to Montreal

After his time with the New York Jets, Boulay returned to the Montreal Alouettes. He rejoined the team in August 2008. He continued to play for the Alouettes until June 15, 2012, when he was released. During his time with the Alouettes, he won two Grey Cup championships.

Joining the Toronto Argonauts

On July 15, 2012, Boulay signed a one-year contract. He joined the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL. With the Argonauts, he achieved another major success. He helped them win the 100th Grey Cup championship. This was his third Grey Cup win. He was released by the Argonauts on December 19, 2012.
