Ángel Israel Mena Delgado, born on January 21, 1988, is a professional footballer from Ecuador. He plays as a winger, which means he plays on the sides of the field, helping with both attack and defense. Currently, he plays for the Liga MX club Pachuca and is also a key player for the Ecuador national team.

Club Career
Ángel Mena has played for several important clubs throughout his career, mainly in Ecuador and Mexico.
Time at Emelec
Mena started his professional journey at Club Sport Emelec in Ecuador. He first played in the top division in 2007. He scored his first official goal in 2008. In 2010, he was loaned to Deportivo Cuenca to gain more experience.
He returned to Emelec in 2011. He became a very important player for the team. Mena helped Emelec win the Ecuadorian championship three times in a row. These victories were in 2013, 2014, and 2015. In the 2014 final, he even scored the first goal that helped Emelec win 3-0 against Barcelona SC. He played 249 games for Emelec and scored 68 goals.
Moving to Cruz Azul
In 2017, Mena moved to Mexico to join the club Cruz Azul. He quickly showed his skills there. On February 12, he scored an amazing free-kick goal against Santos Laguna. This goal helped Cruz Azul get a 2-2 draw in the match. He played 52 games for Cruz Azul and scored 10 goals.
Playing for León
After Cruz Azul, Mena joined León in 2019. This was a very successful period for him. He continued to be a key player, scoring many goals and helping his team win important titles. With León, he won the Liga MX championship in 2020. He also helped them win the CONCACAF Champions League in 2023 and the Leagues Cup in 2021. He played 187 games for León and scored 70 goals.

In 2024, Ángel Mena joined Pachuca. He continues to play as a winger for this Liga MX club.
International Career
Ángel Mena has also proudly represented his home country, Ecuador, on the international stage.
In April 2014, while playing for Emelec, Mena was first called up to the Ecuador national football team. This was for a special training camp. He was even included in the provisional 30-man squad for the World Cup 2014 in Brazil. However, an injury stopped him from playing in the tournament.
Later in 2014, he was called up again for friendly matches. But another injury prevented him from joining the team. Mena finally made his debut for Ecuador on March 28, 2015. He came in as a substitute in a match against Mexico. Since then, he has played 61 games for Ecuador and scored 8 goals.
Personal Life
Ángel Mena is married to Shirley Posligua. They have two daughters together. Mena and his family are very religious and are devout Christians. He is also good friends with fellow footballer Joao Rojas. They were teammates at Emelec, and Rojas's presence at Cruz Azul was one reason Mena decided to join that club.
