Åkersberga is a lively town in Sweden. It is the main town of Österåker Municipality in Stockholm County. In 2010, about 28,033 people lived here. It's a great place to learn about Swedish history and modern life.

Discovering Åkersberga's Past
Åkersberga started as a small, quiet place. It was about 30 kilometers (18 miles) from Stockholm.
How Åkersberga Grew
- 1901: A railway station called Berga opened. This brought more people and businesses to the area.
- Soon, shops and a post office were built.
- The name Berga was changed to Åkers Berga. This was to avoid confusion with other places in Sweden.
- Over time, it became Åkersberga.
From Village to Suburb
After World War II, Åkersberga grew a lot. New apartment buildings were constructed. The town slowly became a suburb of Stockholm. Many people who live here travel to Stockholm for work. This made Åkersberga feel more like a city.
Changes in Local Government
- 1974-1982: Åkersberga was the main town for Vaxholm Municipality.
- 1983: The municipality was divided. Åkersberga then became the main town for Österåker Municipality again.
