Vaxholm Municipality (also known as Vaxholms kommun or Vaxholms stad) is a special area in Stockholm County, located in east-central Sweden. It's called a municipality, which is like a local government area. The main town, or "seat," of Vaxholm Municipality is Vaxholm.
The municipality has a fun slogan: "Vaxholm – the capital of the archipelago." This is because it's right in the middle of a group of islands called an archipelago. From 1974 to 1984, Vaxholm was joined with another area called Österåker Municipality. They formed one big municipality, but their main office was in Åkersberga. After they separated, Vaxholm Municipality became even bigger than it was before. Today, the municipality often calls itself the City of Vaxholm.
