Bordering Two Countries
This mountain is part of the high peaks that rise above the famous Cirque de Gavarnie. The Cirque de Gavarnie is a huge natural amphitheater shaped by glaciers. The Épaule du Marboré helps mark the border between two important national parks. On the French side, it is part of the Pyrenees National Park. On the Spanish side, it belongs to the Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park.

In France, the mountain is located in the small town of Gavarnie. This town is in the canton of Luz-Saint-Sauveur. It is part of the Hautes-Pyrénées department, which is in the Midi-Pyrénées region of France.
On the Spanish side, the mountain is located in the Huesca province. This province is part of the Aragon region in Spain.

The first time someone successfully climbed the Épaule du Marboré was on August 12, 1891. The climbers were Henri Brulle, C. Passet, and François Bernat-Salles.
