The building has a special look. It is built in the International Style. This means it has a black and white grid on the outside. At night, lights shine on it, making it a well-known sight in Tulsa. It is the 3rd-tallest building in this style in the city. Only the BOK Tower and the Bank of America Center are taller.

History of the 110 West 7th Building

The 110 West 7th Building was finished in 1971. It was first built for a company called Cities Service Oil and Gas Corp. This company moved its main office from New York City to Tulsa.

At one point, 2,300 people worked in the building. They came from New York, Bartlesville, and Philadelphia. Cities Service was the biggest private employer in Tulsa back then.

Changes for Cities Service

In 1980, Cities Service planned an even taller building in downtown Tulsa. It was going to be 52 stories high. This new building was meant to be Oklahoma's tallest.

But Cities Service and its brand, Citgo, went through many changes. The company was sold several times. First, it was sold to Occidental Petroleum Corporation. Then, it went to Southland Corporation. Finally, it was sold to Petróleos de Venezuela.

Because of these changes, Cities Service no longer needed such a large main office in downtown Tulsa. They moved their headquarters out of the building. First, they went to a tower in south Tulsa. Then, in 2004, they left Tulsa completely and moved to Houston.

The planned tall building was only built up to 17 stories. It is now the main office for a company called ONEOK, Inc.

The Building Today

Over time, Occidental Petroleum also used less space in the 110 West 7th Building. This left many parts of the building empty.

Later owners made improvements to the building. Now, it is used as a general office tower for many different companies.
