In 1332, the king of Scotland was David II. He was very young at this time, so others had to rule for him.
Choosing a New Regent
When a king is too young to rule, a "Regent" takes charge. This person acts as a temporary ruler. On 2 August, a group of important Scottish nobles met in Perth. They chose Domhnall II, Earl of Mar to be the new Regent of Scotland.

Battle of Wester Kinghorn

Battle of Dupplin Moor
Just a few days later, from 10 August to 11 August, a very important battle took place. This was the Battle of Dupplin Moor. It was a huge victory for Edward Balliol's supporters. This win helped him become king for a short time.
Battle of Annan
Later in the year, on 16 December, the Battle of Annan happened. This battle was a big win for the people loyal to King David II. They managed to push Edward Balliol out of Scotland. This showed that the fight for Scotland's throne was far from over.

Death of a Regent
On 20 July, Thomas Randolph, 1st Earl of Moray passed away. He had been the Regent of Scotland before Domhnall II. He was born in 1278.

The Battle of Dupplin Moor was very costly. Several Scottish leaders died there on 11 August:
