The 1974 FIFA World Cup Final was the exciting last game of the 1974 FIFA World Cup tournament. It was a big match between two strong teams: West Germany and the Netherlands. West Germany won the game 2–1. This victory made them champions for the second time in World Cup history.
How the Game Unfolded
The final match started with a bang! Very early in the game, the Netherlands got a penalty kick. This happened after a player from West Germany, Uli Hoeneß, fouled Johan Cruijff. The Dutch team quickly scored from the penalty, making the score 1–0.
About twenty minutes later, West Germany also earned a penalty. This time, Wim Jansen from the Netherlands fouled Bernd Hölzenbein. West Germany scored from their penalty, tying the game at 1–1.
Just before halftime, in the 43rd minute, Gerd Müller scored another goal for West Germany. This goal put them ahead 2–1. It turned out to be his very last goal for West Germany, as he retired from international football soon after the tournament.
The second half of the game was full of action and chances for both teams. However, neither team managed to score any more goals. West Germany held onto their lead and won the match 2–1, becoming the champions!
