Key Moments of the Season
Mercedes' Big Win
Nico Rosberg finished second in the Drivers' Championship, right behind Lewis Hamilton. He was 67 points behind Hamilton. Nico also won the first-ever Pole Trophy, which is given for getting the most pole positions (starting first on the grid) during the season.
The Mercedes team had an amazing year! They won their first-ever World Constructors' Championship. They secured this big win with a fantastic 1–2 finish in the Russian Grand Prix. This means their two drivers finished first and second in that race.
Car Designs and New Looks
The look of the cars in 2014 was a bit different and caused some talk. New rules meant cars needed a very low nose. This led to some teams designing cars with a unique, finger-like part at the front. People even nicknamed this part the "alien" nose! You can see an example of this on the Caterham CT05 car.
Marussia's First Points
A driver named Jules Bianchi made history for the Marussia team. He scored their first and only points ever in Formula One. This happened at the Monaco Grand Prix Grand Prix, which is a very tough race.
Women in F1
Susie Wolff also made a special appearance in 2014. She became the first woman to take part in an F1 weekend since 1992. She participated in a free practice session at the British Grand Prix. This was a big moment for women in motorsport!
