44 Montgomery is a very tall office building, also known as a skyscraper, located in the center of San Francisco's Financial District. This district is where many banks and businesses have their main offices. The building has 43 floors and stands about 172 meters (564 feet) tall.
When 44 Montgomery was finished in 1967, it was the tallest building west of Dallas. However, its record did not last long. In 1969, another building called 555 California Street became even taller. 44 Montgomery was first designed and built for Wells Fargo Bank. Some of their technology teams used to work there. Later, in 1997, the building was sold by AT&T.
One cool thing about 44 Montgomery is how it was planned. It was built at the same time as the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) subway system. Because of this, the building has a direct underground path to the Montgomery Street Station. This makes it easy for people to get to work using public transport.
