New Popes in Rome
In March 752, a man named Stephen was chosen to be the new Pope. The Pope is the leader of the Catholic Church. Sadly, this Pope Stephen II was only Pope for three days before he passed away.
After him, another man also named Stephen was chosen. He became Pope Stephen III. He took over the important role of leading the Catholic Church.
A Special Ceremony in Japan
In Japan, the retired Emperor Shōmu took part in a very important event. He helped dedicate a giant statue of the Vairocana Buddha. This ceremony happened at the famous Todaiji temple.
During this special day, Emperor Shōmu declared himself a Buddhist. This showed his deep faith in the Buddhist religion.
