A. J. Wynder, born on September 11, 1964, is an American college basketball coach. He is currently the head coach for the men's basketball team at Nassau Community College. Before becoming a coach, Wynder was a professional basketball player. He played for the Boston Celtics in the National Basketball Association during the 1990–91 season. He also represented the United States national basketball team, helping them win a silver medal at the 1995 Pan American Games. Wynder grew up in Freeport, New York, on Long Island.

Playing College Basketball

Wynder went to Fairfield University for college. He was a very good player there. In 1987, he was chosen for the Second Team All-MAAC. He helped his team, the Fairfield Stags, win two MAAC Championships in a row. This also led them to play in the NCAA Tournament in both 1986 and 1987.

In the 1987 MAAC tournament final, Wynder made an amazing shot. It was a "buzzer-beater" at the very end of the game. This shot sent the game into overtime. Fairfield then went on to beat Iona and advanced to the NCAA tournament.

Playing Professional Basketball

A. J. Wynder played for the famous Boston Celtics team. This was during the 1990–91 NBA season in the National Basketball Association. Besides the NBA, he also played for 10 seasons in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA). He played in the CBA from 1987 to 1989 and again from 1990 to 1996.

Playing for Team USA

Wynder also played for the United States national basketball team. He helped Team USA win a silver medal. This happened at the 1995 Pan American Games in Mar del Plata, Argentina. During that tournament, Wynder was an incredible three-point shooter. He made 8 out of 12 three-point shots. This means he hit 66.7 percent of his shots from beyond the arc. This set a new record for three-point shooting accuracy for the U.S. basketball team in that tournament.

Coaching Basketball

A. J. Wynder is now the fourth head coach for the men's basketball team at Nassau Community College. He has been coaching NCC for 11 seasons. During his time there, he has led the team to a great record of 208 wins and 86 losses. In 2002, Wynder was named the Region XV Coach of the Year. Coach Wynder has also guided NCC to the championship game of the Region XV (Division III) tournament three times. These were in 2002, 2006, and 2007.

Before becoming a head coach, Wynder also had experience as a player/assistant coach. He did this while playing for the Tri City Chinooks in Washington state. This was from 1993 to 1995.
